OUR CROSSBREED'S HISTORY

The foundation of our breeding program to produce larger well bred Sport and Performance horses for  Eventing and Dressage horses.  Our breeding program starts with a very specific draft cross mare line which we then breed to carefully selected Warmblood Stallions.  All our draft cross mares are also approved as foundation stock Canadian Sport Horses.    Our cross-bred mares range in size from 16.1hh to 17.1hh.

CLYDESDALE/HACKNEY HORSE CROSS MARES:
Historically known as a "Commercial Horse" - this crossbreed was a very popular pairing 30 years ago and were mainly used as coach and wagon horses.  The Clydesdale mares were bred to Hackney Horse Stallions  - the ancestor of the Norfolk Trotter.  Norfolk Trotters were fancy small coach horses in England and are now an extinct breed.  Norfolk Trotters are also one of the founding breeds of the Selle Francais.   Commercial Horses were also very popular in North America for Hunter and Jumper mounts before the influx of European Warmbloods.

Our "Commercial Horse" Crossbreeds are bred by a world renowned breeder of this type of horse and most of their horses are trained to drive at a young age.  Many of these Commercial Horses are then sold to the US as fancy coach horses.   Many are also sold as hunters, eventers,  jumpers, dressage and police horses.
A willingness to please, aptitude to learn and the ability to compress and balance are just a few of the qualities that makes this crossbred a pleasure to work with and train.
The Hackney Horse is now a very rare breed.  While a resurgence has started in the United States with this Breed as a dressage horse and light riding horse in addition to carriage horses, their are very few breeders in North America.   Champion Hackney Horse Stallion Alpha Centauri is the sire of one of our Commercial Cross Mares and Jumping Jack Flash is the other sire.

Hackney Horses have high knee action, making them excellent jumpers with very tight front legs and powerful hind ends.    During the 19th Century Hackney stallions were imported by French, Italian, German, Australian, Finlandian, Dutch and Hungarian Governments for use in national breeding programs.  Many breeds including Gelderlander, Dutch Warmblood and Friesian all have Hackney Horse ancestry.

The Commercial Cross is known for its fancy trot, calm demeanor and strength.  Typically Bay in colour with a strip or blaze and four white socks or stockings.
